My son decided he wanted to try golf (about which I have zero idea). The staff have been nothing but welcoming and helpful, accommodating a wheelchair using Granny and a keen 7 year old. Parking is plentiful and easy to access. There is plenty of seating for gawkers (me), but I imagine it'll be pretty cold in Winter!
Definitely a good way to spend a free hour or two. You get all the equipment you need included and it's loads of fun. If you've never done this before it might be useful to Google how to hold a gold club properly :)

Had my CBT with Nicky today. Fantastic, knowledgeable and approachable instructors. Highly enjoyable day with lots of confidence due to the staff at the Shires. Would definitely go back to for further courses and would wholly recommend.
Fantastic bunch of male and female instructors. They all get involved including the boss Paul. Admin manager Emiliy structured all my course around my work life and even changed things around a few times. Currently riding round nottingham in preperation for my D.A.S. mod 2 test cant failt any of the tuition. I highly recommend this training school.

This place is on our route walking through Elvaston Castle. Lovely place.
The club is managed entirely by volunteers, current numbers are around 50 people undertaking varying roles within the club with many taking on more that one role. The facilities themselves and maintained by a group of around 8 people with varying skills two days per week every week of the year. Increased engagement with the local community during the creation of the extension and as a result of the pavilion being available use is anticipated to attract more volunteers to support sustainability. Improved volunteer engagement is a further benefit in line with Sport England "Towards an Active Nation". Plans for the extension are currently at the planning consent stage with a decision expected around 5th May 2017. As we are still at planning consent, applications for funding have yet to be made, however, the ECB and Sport England have been consulted and are aware of our project with respect to the Community Asset Fund. In addition South Derbyshire District Council have been consulted and our plans are in their facilities strategy. section 106 funding support is currently being investigated given that we are so close to a major housing development which will swamp the recreational needs of the area over time. Fundraising activities and events have been on-going by the club by the club for over a year, partnership support is being investigated and finally we expect to carry out a significant amount of the work ourselves with volunteers.
